Veteran journalist Vijay Vaidya passed away at his Mumbai residence on Saturday morning, according to his family. He was 82.
Survived by his wife and two sons, Vaidya's distinguished career in journalism spanned six decades. He contributed to prominent Marathi dailies like 'Sakal' and 'Navakal' and penned numerous columns and books.
Besides his journalistic achievements, Vaidya was involved in social work, assisting in locating missing children and supporting divorcees. He also contributed to 'sarvajanik' Ganesh mandals in Borivali.
Senior journalist Yogesh Trivedi mentioned Vaidya's unique wish for his remains to be wrapped in newspapers and cremated with joy rather than sadness. Vaidya served in various leadership roles within journalistic organizations, including as president of the North Mumbai Patrakar Sangh.
He received several accolades recognizing his contributions to journalism and social causes.
