Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday gifted US President Joe Biden an antique silver hand-engraved train model, a rare and extraordinary piece masterfully crafted by artisans from Maharashtra. This model is a testament to the pinnacle of Indian metalworking artistry.

The vintage creation showcases intricate filigree work and is crafted from 92.5 percent silver, according to officials. This piece not only embodies artistic brilliance but also holds historical significance, paying tribute to the steam locomotive era.

Customized by inscribing 'DELHI-DELAWARE' on the sides of the main carriage and 'INDIAN RAILWAYS' on the sides of the engine in both English and Hindi, the model signifies the robust linkages between India and the United States.

In addition to this symbolic gift, Modi chose a pashmina shawl encased in a papier-mache box as a present for the First Lady, Jill Biden. Officials highlighted that pashmina shawls are considered the pinnacle of Jammu and Kashmir's handcraft legacy.

Contemporary designers are infusing these traditional shawls with modern sensibilities, experimenting with bolder colors, playful patterns, and fusion styles. This fusion ensures the enduring legacy of pashmina remains relevant, captivating hearts across generations and cultures.

The papier-mache boxes, traditionally used to pack the shawls, are renowned for their exquisite beauty and craftsmanship. Handmade from a mixture of paper pulp, glue, and other natural materials, each box is a unique work of art reflecting Kashmir's rich cultural heritage.

These boxes are functional but are also cherished as decorative items in their own right, officials noted.
