Ratan Tata, the revered chairman emeritus of Tata Sons, one of India's largest conglomerates, is reported to be in critical condition in intensive care at a Mumbai hospital, according to two well-placed sources on Wednesday.

At 86, Tata mentioned on Monday that he was undergoing routine medical examinations, attributing it to age-related conditions. A spokesperson for Tata did not provide immediate updates on his condition.

In a social media message on Monday, Tata assured the public of his good spirits, minimizing any concerns. Tata, who led the Tata Group from 1991 until 2012, also established Tata Teleservices and spearheaded Tata Consultancy Services' public offering.
