The Skillhub Online Games Federation launched its inaugural SOG Grandmasters Series on Monday, marking a pivotal moment for skill-based mind sports within India's burgeoning online gaming sector.
The event features three main games: Indian Chess Masters, Indian Chess Masters for Blind, and Indian Rummy Grandmasters. Following online qualifiers, the unique 'phygital' zonals will kick off, blending physical attendance with digital gaming. The first zonal competition begins in Bengaluru on December 18-19.
The ultimate stage will see zonal finalists compete in the nationals in Delhi in March 2025, vying for titles and a share of a Rs 2 crore prize pool. Tied with the International Mind Sports Association, the initiative aims to set global standards in India, promoting skill games as credible mind sports.
