The Assam government on Monday unveiled a series of forward-thinking initiatives, with plans to establish India's first AI-based laboratory focused on enhancing cyber surveillance efforts against deepfake threats. Presenting the annual budget, Finance Minister Ajanta Neog emphasized the state's ambition for significant technological advancements in the upcoming years.

In a bid to position Assam as a leader in AI-driven law enforcement and digital economic platforms, Neog announced collaborations with the tea industry to introduce an AI-enhanced, blockchain-based auction system. This new digital infrastructure aims to enhance transparency and efficiency in the tea trade, solidifying Assam's global reputation as a tea industry leader.

The government also plans to explore the development of high-tech AI-powered agri-hubs in selected villages, a bamboo smart city, and a dedicated Special Economic Zone focusing on research and innovation. These initiatives showcase Assam's commitment to innovation in AI, sustainable urban planning, and the green economy, aiming for diverse economic growth and environmental sustainability.
