The Kedarnath pilgrimage route continues to face restrictions on horse and mule travel following an outbreak of an infectious virus. An official announced that the ban would remain in effect as efforts to contain the spread are underway.
Amid rising infections and 14 animal fatalities, local stakeholders have expressed concerns, urging authorities to extend the preventive measures. State Animal Husbandry Secretary BVRC Purushottam indicated that the district administration will decide on any extension based on evolving circumstances.
Investigations reveal that the deaths might be attributed to 'diarrhea' and 'acute colic.' Samples have been sent to the Indian Veterinary Research Institute for deeper analysis. Even after lifting restrictions, only healthy animals will resume service, pending stringent testing.
