The onset of Durga Puja immersions along the Ichamati river near the India-Bangladesh border has prompted heightened security measures to ensure safe and smooth festivities. Local police and border forces have ramped up their presence, said a senior police officer.
In light of the river's international border status, the Border Security Force (BSF) and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) are conducting joint patrols using speedboats, drones, and other surveillance equipment. Watchtowers and disaster management teams are in place to manage the influx of visitors and ensure safety.
Following a bilateral meeting, border forces agreed to abide by set borders, respecting immersion sites on each side. With thousands expected to attend, motorised and standing boats will control crowd sizes, while fireworks displays have been organized by Taki Municipality. All activities are to conclude by sunset to maintain order.
