In a surprising revelation, actress Keira Knightley disclosed her unawareness regarding the ongoing boycott of the Harry Potter franchise before her involvement was announced in a forthcoming audiobook series. Deadline had reported Knightley's casting as Professor Umbridge in 'Harry Potter: The Full-Cast Audio Editions,' produced by Pottermore Publishing and Audible.

Addressing the issue, Knightley expressed regret, saying she was unaware of the dispute. 'I'm very sorry,' she told reporters. 'We're navigating a complex era, trying to coexist despite differing views. I hope for mutual respect,' she added. The franchise controversy was reignited by J.K. Rowling's remarks perceived as anti-trans, following her support of a UK court ruling on trans rights.

The backlash saw over 400 film and TV industry figures, including actor Paapa Essiedu, who will appear as Professor Snape in an upcoming HBO series, advocating for stronger trans rights measures in the UK. Despite the tensions, Rowling remains heavily involved in the series as an executive producer through Brontë Film and TV, a role confirmed by HBO's Casey Bloys, who stated, 'Her insights will be valuable.'
