A tragic fire erupted at Birch By Romeo Lane, a nightclub in Arpora, North Goa, claiming the lives of at least 25 individuals early Sunday. The incident reignited memories of similar nightclub tragedies, like the catastrophic blaze in North Macedonia in March, which claimed 62 lives.
In the past decade, significant nightclub fires with high fatality counts have occurred. In October 2015, the Colectiv nightclub fire in Bucharest, Romania, took 64 lives. This disaster was triggered by pyrotechnics igniting flammable acoustic foam during a band performance.
Other notable fires include the December 2016 'Ghost Ship' warehouse fire in Oakland, California, which killed 36 during an electronic music party, and the multiple nightclub fires in 2022 and 2023 in locations such as Cameroon, Indonesia, Thailand, Spain, Turkey, and North Macedonia, each resulting in numerous casualties.
