India Hosts UNESCO's Historic Session on Intangible Cultural Heritage at Red Fort

At the iconic Red Fort, India kicked off the 20th UNESCO session on Intangible Cultural Heritage. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar emphasized the importance of nurturing and preserving cultural heritage for future generations, highlighting India's commitment to safeguarding traditions in a multilateral, diverse world.

India marked a significant milestone by hosting the 20th session of UNESCO's Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage at New Delhi's Red Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This marks India's first time hosting this prestigious global panel.

During the opening ceremony, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar stressed the importance of preserving and promoting intangible cultural heritage. He highlighted India's diplomatic efforts in safeguarding and revitalizing cultural traditions and emphasized the necessity for cultural rebalancing alongside political and economic shifts.

Jaishankar underlined UNESCO's crucial role in fostering multilateral cooperation to protect diverse heritages around the world. The session aims to review nominations from state parties and provide international support for cultural preservation, thus promoting mutual respect and understanding across nations.
