On Tuesday evening, a fire ravaged a historic British-era building in Nainital's Mallital area, which housed the Saraswati Shishu Mandir school. The blaze, reportedly caused by a short circuit, prompted a swift response from local fire departments.

Nainital Sub-Divisional Magistrate Nawazish Khaliq revealed that the fire was reported around 7:30 p.m. First responders, including fire personnel and the State Disaster Response Force, rushed to the scene to contain the flames and ensure safety.

Chief Fire Officer Gaurav Kirar noted the building's wooden structure contributed to the rapid spread of fire. In addition to Nainital's own units, fire tenders from Bhimtal and Bhawali were dispatched. The building's owner, Alok Shah, used it as a school, tent house, and hotel. Thankfully, there were no casualties, and the principal's family was safely evacuated. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami monitored the situation via video call.
