DMK MP Kanimozhi described Mahakavi Subramania Bharathi as the symbol of Tamil, honoring the poet on his 143rd birth anniversary. She emphasized his lasting impact on emotions and intellect in Tamil culture.
Bharathi, born on December 11, 1882, in Ettayapuram, was a revolutionary poet and freedom fighter, advocating for women's liberation and caste annihilation through his work. Kanimozhi urges society to embrace similar ideals for an equitable future.
To commemorate Bharathi's legacy, the Indian government initiated the 'Bharatiya Bhasha Utsav,' an annual celebration of Indian languages, from 2023. The festival culminates following a week-long observance, involving schools nationwide.
