In a historic achievement, Pune, India has set a new Guinness World Record for the largest display of posters. The record-breaking effort, confirmed on Saturday by Guinness adjudicator Swapnil Dangrikar, was part of a book festival held at Ferguson College and included 1,678 posters, surpassing the U.S. record of 1,365 posters set in February 2025.
This remarkable event, organized by the Pune Book Festival, Yashwantrao Chavan Maharashtra Open University, and RISE Foundation, paid tribute to tribal leader and freedom fighter Bhagwan Birsa Munda. The record, documented on a certificate, aims to highlight his life and contribution via a special pavilion dedicated to him at the festival.
Running from December 13 to 21, the festival is organized by the National Book Trust (NBT). Convenor Rajesh Pande emphasized that the record was achieved through posters showcasing tribal vocabulary, part of an initiative to honor Birsa Munda. Social activist Girish Prabhune, a Padma Shri awardee, highlighted the necessity of preserving tribal dialects by documenting them in the Devanagari script.
