Bollywood actor Randeep Hooda recently paid a visit to Cellular Jail, an iconic location where he filmed major portions of his directorial debut, ''Swatantrya Veer Savarkar.'' The film, slated for release in March 2024, explores the life and legacy of Indian politician Vinayak Damodar Savarkar. Hooda himself stars in the title role.
On social media, Hooda expressed deep emotion about filming at the same location where Veer Savarkar once suffered. Sharing images from the visit, he spoke of witnessing the unveiling of Savarkar's statue, a gesture marking the enduring resilience and recognition of the leader's sacrifices. ''History may remember slowly, but truth endures,'' he wrote.
The event was attended by prominent figures such as Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh's Shri Mohan Bhagwat and India's Union Home Minister Amit Shah. Hooda described being honored during this poignant occasion, where history and recognition came together in a significant ceremony at Port Blair. ''Veer Savarkar's legacy stands tall today,'' he added. The film features Ankita Lokhande and Tirrtha Murbaadkar in key roles.
