Rocco Commisso, the vocal owner of the Italian soccer club Fiorentina and chairman of Mediacom Communications, has passed away at the age of 76.

Both Fiorentina and Mediacom confirmed Commisso's death on Saturday, though they did not disclose the cause. Fiorentina expressed their mourning, acknowledging his profound love for the team.

After turning Mediacom into a major player in the U.S. cable television industry, Commisso bought Fiorentina in 2019. He was well-known for criticizing Italy's bureaucratic challenges and stadium-building obstacles.

Born in Calabria, Commisso moved to the U.S. at 12. He also owned the New York Cosmos and supported Columbia University, where he played soccer and where a stadium is named in his honor.

Under his leadership, Fiorentina reached the Conference League finals twice but currently faces relegation in Serie A.
