Union Textiles Minister Giriraj Singh has set an ambitious goal for Mizoram's silk industry, aiming to establish it as a national leader in Muga silk production. During his two-day visit, Singh inspected the Sericulture Training Institute in Aizawl and met with silk farmers and weavers, emphasizing collaboration over formal announcements.

Singh highlighted Mizoram's distinction as the only state in Northeast India producing all major silk varieties. He announced a substantial financial commitment under the Silk Samagra 2.0 scheme, with Rs. 59.74 crore allocated for silk production till January 2026. The minister also suggested designating four districts for Muga silk and other districts for different varieties, advocating for cluster-based farming to boost the sector.

Expressing satisfaction with the sector's growth, Singh noted sericulture's importance as a livelihood for thousands in the state. He urged the introduction of performance benchmarks and incentives for farmers, as well as collaboration with institutions like NIFT to enhance market access. State Sericulture Minister Lalthansanga acknowledged the benefits of the scheme and called for continued central support.
