Mourinho's Potential Return to Real Madrid Mired in Digital Doubt
Real Madrid's announcement of Jose Mourinho's return as coach if President Florentino Perez wins reelection is clouded by a controversial video questioned for authenticity. Portuguese media doubts the video's legitimacy, claiming it could be AI-generated. Perez's opponent Enrique Riquelme proposes innovative plans for Real Madrid.
Real Madrid has issued a statement confirming Jose Mourinho would return as coach, contingent upon President Florentino Perez's reelection. This follows skepticism from Portuguese media over a video released by Perez's team showing Mourinho allegedly voicing the decision.
The video, showing Mourinho in a Real Madrid shirt, has been circulated widely in Spain, including prime-time TV. Yet, doubts persist in Portugal, Mourinho's coaching base at Benfica, where the clip is speculated to be AI-generated. Reuters pulled its report, citing inconclusive findings after using five AI detection tools.
Mourinho's camp and Benfica have refrained from commenting directly on the video's authenticity. However, Benfica stated any hire by Perez would necessitate a 15 million euro contract payoff. Meanwhile, Perez faces electoral challenges from rival Enrique Riquelme, who promises revamped training facilities for Real Madrid.
