Choosing not to impose a total lockdown on the lines of Dakshina Kannada, the Udupi district administration has decided to seal its borders for two weeks from Wednesday. Udupi Deputy Commissioner G Jagadeesha told reporters that those who want to leave or enter the district will have to do so before 8 pm on Wednesday, after which the district borders will be sealed for two weeks.

The regulations will be applicable to festivals and pre-planned marriage functions also. The total lockdown on Sundays will continue.

However, vehicles carrying essential goods can move without any restrictions. People coming on special 'Vande Bharat' flights can travel by availing special passes from the local authorities, the Commissioner said.

Meanwhile, Dakshina Kannada deputy commissioner Sindhu B Rupesh issued guidelines for the week-long total lockdown announced in the district from Wednesday night. The lockdown will be in place from 8 pm on Wednesday till 5 am on July 23.

In a circular, the DC said services like medical, police, home guards, emergency services, city corporation office, jail, offices pertaining to water and electricity, court and offices for monitoring COVID-19 will be open outside containment zones. Religious places will be closed for the public, shopping malls, gyms, stadiums, parks, swimming pools, bars, wine shops and auditoriums will not function.

Taxis, autorickshaws and cab services will not function except vehicles used for emergency services. Train and flight service will continue as per schedule and the tickets of the passengers will be considered as passes to travel, the circular said.
