China's Bold Steps Towards Carbon Management: 2027 Goals Unveiled

China announced plans to introduce a carbon footprint management system by 2027, establishing calculation standards for 200 major products by 2030. Key products, including coal, steel, natural gas, aluminium, lithium batteries, and new energy vehicles, will be prioritized, reflecting ambitious environmental goals set by the Ministry of Ecology and Environment.

China said on Wednesday it aims to establish an initial carbon footprint management system by 2027 and to release carbon footprint calculation standards for around 200 major products by 2030.

It will prioritise the calculation standard releases for products including coal, steel, natural gas, aluminium, lithium battery and new energy vehicles, according to a plan issued by the Ministry of Ecology and Environment.
