Karnataka Mandates Aadhaar Link for Irrigation Pumps to Curb Power Theft

Karnataka's Energy Minister K J George announced the mandatory linking of Aadhaar with the Irrigation Pump set linked Revenue Registration numbers. This move aims to curb power theft by illegal pump sets and ensure accurate electricity distribution. The state also plans to recruit 2,000 linemen to streamline service delivery.

Karnataka Energy Minister K J George on Thursday stated that linking Aadhaar with the Irrigation Pump (IP) set linked Revenue Registration (RR) numbers was essential to prevent power theft through illegal pump sets.

George noted that the Aadhaar linkage is not only vital for preventing disruptions but also for record-keeping purposes. He emphasized that agricultural pump sets up to 10 HP receive free electricity, and Aadhaar linkage is crucial for accurately gauging electricity needs and ensuring efficient distribution.

Highlighting the government's commitment to providing uninterrupted power, especially during droughts, George announced plans to ensure seven hours of daily electricity through demand-based allocation and district-level meetings every three months. Additionally, George disclosed an imminent recruitment drive to hire 2,000 linemen within 15 days to address manpower issues statewide.
