The West Bengal government has turned to the Supreme Court, challenging Governor CV Ananda Bose's decision to withhold assent for eight bills, citing serious impacts on state welfare.

Advocate Astha Sharma, representing West Bengal, argued before the court that the governor's actions undermine constitutional principles, rule of law, and democratic governance. This, she said, infringes on residents' rights by obstructing legislative welfare measures.

The petition claims the governor's inaction renders the State Legislature's efforts futile, creating a constitutional crisis. The government seeks the Court's intervention under Article 32, requesting directives to the governor for timely bill review and assent as per constitutional mandates, referencing the Sarkaria Commission's recommendations.
