AIBA Calls for Strengthened Workforce to Implement New Criminal Laws Effectively

The All India Bar Association has urged PM Modi to bolster police, judiciary, and forensic teams for the new criminal laws. Chairman Dr. Adish Aggarwala stressed the necessity of infrastructure to ensure the successful implementation of timely trial completions, swift FIR registrations, and expeditious investigations.

The All India Bar Association (AIBA) has called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi to increase the strength of police personnel, judicial officers, public prosecutors, and managers for court management to ensure the effective implementation of new criminal laws.

In a letter by AIBA Chairman Dr. Adish Aggarwala, who is also the outgoing President of the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA), he outlined pivotal steps needed to achieve timely completion of trials, quick FIR registrations, and rapid investigation processes under the three new criminal laws.

Effective from July 1, 2024, these laws mandate FIRs within three days of complaints, charge framing within sixty days from the first hearing, and trials in absentia against proclaimed offenders after ninety days. Furthermore, courts must pronounce judgments within 45 days post-trial and upload them within seven days, thereby ensuring swift justice delivery.
