Chhattisgarh CM Calls for Review After BJP's Setback in Assembly Bypolls

BJP leader Vishnu Deo Sai urged a review of the recent Assembly bypoll results where the BJP won only two out of 13 seats, while the opposition INDIA bloc secured 10 seats. Congress leader Sandeep Dikshit noted that the BJP is losing ground. Polls were held in seven states.

BJP leader and Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai on Sunday called for a review of the recent Assembly bypoll results, which saw the BJP suffer significant losses. The opposition INDIA bloc secured 10 out of 13 seats in the bypolls held across seven states, leaving the BJP with just two seats.

Addressing the media, Sai emphasized the varied political scenarios across the country and stated, 'In a democracy, the decision lies with the people. The results need to be reviewed.'

Reacting to the bypoll outcomes, Congress leader Sandeep Dikshit asserted that if the Lok Sabha elections were to be held 6-8 months earlier, the BJP would have fared worse, winning fewer than 120 seats. Dikshit highlighted the INDIA bloc's victories as an indicator of the BJP's declining popularity.

Dikshit remarked, 'For the first time, NDA parties are performing better than the BJP in their respective states, and the BJP is now heavily reliant on its allies. The party is failing in multiple states and is soon heading to an ICU.'

Polling was conducted on July 10 for Assembly seats in Bihar, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, and Himachal Pradesh. The bypolls covered a diverse range of seats across these states.

Uttarakhand saw the BJP lose both seats, with Congress candidates emerging victorious. In Badrinath, Lakhapat Singh Butola defeated Rajendra Singh Bhandari by 5224 votes, while in Manglaur, Qazi Mohammad Nizamuddin won against Kartar Singh Bhadana by 422 votes. Himachal Pradesh witnessed Congress winning two out of three seats, with Kamlesh Thakur and Hardeep Singh Bawa securing victories. Ashish Sharma of the BJP won in Hamirpur.

In Punjab, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), part of the INDIA alliance, won in Jalandhar West. The DMK of the INDIA alliance triumphed in Vikravandi, Tamil Nadu, while West Bengal saw the All India Trinamool Congress sweep all four seats. In Bihar, an independent candidate won, with neither the JDU of the NDA nor the RJD of the INDIA alliance securing a victory.
