Congress Demands Impartiality Ahead of Budget Session

In anticipation of the Budget Session, Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi expressed hope on Monday that parliamentary proceedings will remain impartial. In a statement to ANI, the deputy leader in the Lok Sabha criticized the BJP, accusing the government of sidelining important issues and removing key remarks by Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi from the parliamentary record.

Gogoi lamented the deletion of Gandhi's statements criticizing PM Narendra Modi, BJP, and RSS. He stressed the importance of preserving the constitutional role of the Leader of the Opposition, urging that Gandhi's comments be recorded faithfully in parliamentary documents. The remarks, he noted, reflect the sentiments of the broader population. Additionally, Gogoi mentioned the recent by-election victories in Badrinath and Faizabad as signals of public support against BJP.

When asked about the Opposition's expectations from the upcoming Budget, Gogoi said he expects little from PM Modi and the current government. He criticized the government for focusing on affluent individuals instead of addressing inflation, unemployment, and other pressing issues. Gogoi questioned the government's priorities, contrasting significant financial commitments to projects like the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train with inadequate support for flood control in the northeast. He promised that Rahul Gandhi would continue raising national issues both in and out of Parliament.
