UP Deploys PAC, RAF for Safe Muharram Processions

Uttar Pradesh has deployed 12 companies of PAC and RAF to ensure security during Muharram processions, according to Joint CP Law and Order, Kirit Rathod. The situation is also being monitored via drones and social media. CM Yogi Adityanath emphasized adherence to government rules for festival celebrations.

Uttar Pradesh has ramped up security during Muharram with the deployment of 12 companies of the Pradeshik Armed Constabulary (PAC) and Rapid Action Force (RAF), Joint CP Law and Order, Kirit Rathod announced on Tuesday. 'The month of Muharram is ongoing, and processions are taking place in various areas. Meticulous planning has been implemented, and 12 companies of PAC and RAF have been deployed,' Rathod stated. He added that drones are monitoring the situation, and a dedicated media cell is ensuring no rumors are spread via social media.

Rathod further mentioned that dialogues have been initiated with Maulanas, and peace committee meetings held to ensure smooth proceedings. 'The necessary cooperation is being obtained from them,' he said. Muharram is of significant religious importance for Shia Muslims, who along with people of other faiths, join in large processions and tazia processions in India.

In a recent meeting of the Uttar Pradesh BJP Working Committee, CM Yogi Adityanath emphasized that all festivals must adhere to government regulations. 'In the past, roads would be deserted during Muharram. Today, celebrations are ongoing but regulated. We must remember that previously, in the name of tazia, properties were damaged and utilities disrupted. Now, the government insists on celebrating festivals within the rules or staying at home,' CM Yogi said. Earlier in June, the All India Shia Personal Law Board wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urging better security arrangements to maintain law and order.
