Intermittent heavy rainfall has led to landslides blocking the Tanakpur Champawat National Highway in Uttarakhand's Champawat district. As per a statement from Champawat Police Uttarakhand, debris and stones have made the highway impassable at multiple points.
The issue is not isolated; on July 10, another landslide blocked the Badrinath National Highway near the Patal Ganga Langsi tunnel. Though traffic has partially resumed near Joshimath, travel remains precarious.
On July 11, 2024, the Badrinath National Highway was reopened for pedestrians and polling parties, as informed by the SDRF Uttarakhand Police. Heavy rainfall across Uttarakhand has frequently triggered landslides, complicating travel and necessitating safety interventions.
