Heavy Rains Batter Mumbai, Residents Advised to Stay Indoors

Mumbai faces heavy rainfall, prompting advisories from police and civic authorities for residents to stay indoors. The IMD issued an orange alert, predicting intense rainfall. Coastal areas and several roads are waterlogged, causing traffic disruptions.

Heavy rains battered parts of Mumbai early Tuesday morning, continuing a spell of severe weather that has affected the city for weeks.

The Mumbai Police issued an advisory urging citizens to avoid coastal areas and leave their homes only if necessary due to the incessant rainfall. An emergency contact number 100 has also been provided for urgent situations.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation echoed the police's caution, asking residents to stay indoors as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an orange alert, forecasting heavy to very heavy rain. "People are requested to avoid going out unless necessary," the statement read.

Advisories were also issued for Thane, Palghar, Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg in Maharashtra's Konkan region. Waterlogging and traffic snarls have already been reported across several roads in Mumbai.
