Supreme Court Seeks UP Government's Response on Abbas Ansari's Bail Plea

The Supreme Court has issued a notice to the Uttar Pradesh government regarding Abbas Ansari's bail plea. The case concerns Ansari allegedly meeting his wife illegally in Chitrakoot jail. Ansari's petition challenges the Allahabad High Court's decision to reject his bail.

The Supreme Court on Thursday issued notice to the Uttar Pradesh government concerning Abbas Ansari's bail plea, involving allegations of illegally meeting his wife in Chitrakoot jail. A bench of justices Surya Kant, Dipankar Datta, and Ujjal Bhuyan sought the UP government's response on Ansari's plea.

Senior Advocate Kapil Sibal represented Abbas Ansari, who filed the petition through advocate Lzafeer Ahmad BF, contesting the Allahabad High Court's May 1 decision to deny him bail regarding the alleged illegal meeting.

Following the alleged incident, Ansari was transferred to Kasganj jail in February 2023. Seven individuals were arrested, including Ansari's wife, who was later granted bail by the Supreme Court.
