In a statement to ANI on Friday, BJP MP Balabhadra Majhi announced a provision of Rs 70 crore for the Rayagada Railway Division in Odisha, as informed by Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw. Majhi noted that all requested railway lines for his Nabarangpur constituency had been sanctioned.
Although the Rayagada Railway Division has been sanctioned, a detailed project report (DPR) is still pending approval. Andhra Pradesh had also sought a railway zone in Waltair, leading to the prompt push for the Rayagada Division. This prompted Majhi's meeting with the Railway Minister, culminating in the allocation of funds.
Majhi expressed gratitude for the allocation and noted that land in Rayagada is available, and immediate actions have been directed for the project's commencement. Additionally, Vaishnaw assured that Koraput, Rayagada, and Gajapati would stay with Odisha's East Coast Railway Zone, not the South Coast Railway Zone.
The South Coast Zone has been sanctioned, and the DPR is awaiting approval. Odisha's demand for the East Coast has been satisfied, leading to the establishment of a new railway division in Rayagada.
