Rajya Sabha MP Mamata Mohanta Resigns: Dhankhar Confirms Immediate Acceptance

Vice President and Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar announced on Wednesday that he has received and accepted the resignation of Rajya Sabha MP Mamata Mohanta with immediate effect. Addressing the Rajya Sabha, Dhankhar stated, 'Honourable members, I have received a letter today from honourable member Mamata Mohanta, representing the state of Odisha, resigning her seat in the Rajya Sabha. She has resigned her seat by writing to the Chairman and handed personally to me.'

He further added, 'I have accepted the resignation of Mamata Mohanta, member representing the state of Odisha with immediate effect.' In her resignation letter, Mohanta wrote, 'I do hereby tender my resignation from the membership of Rajya Sabha, today, i.e. July 31, 2024. I have taken this decision consciously.'

Mohanta expressed gratitude for the opportunities she was given to address public issues in the House. She also shared her resignation on her official X handle, thanking the Biju Janata Dal Party president for her roles in the District Council and Rajya Sabha. In another letter to Naveen Patnaik, Mohanta resigned from the primary membership of the Biju Janata Dal, citing that her services and those of her community were no longer required by the party.
