Eight-Year-Old Rescued from Manhole in Delhi's Defence Colony

An 8-year-old boy was rescued after falling into a manhole covered with cardboard in Delhi's Defence Colony. The incident occurred in front of South Delhi Public School while the boy was being dropped off by his father. Quick action by bystanders saved the child, who sustained no injuries.

An eight-year-old boy was rescued after falling into a manhole covered with cardboard in Delhi's Defence Colony, officials confirmed on Saturday. The child, identified as Jasmeet Singh, fell in front of South Delhi Public School in the national capital.

Police reported that the manhole lid was covered with a plyboard which broke under the boy's weight, causing him to fall into the sewer. The child was quickly rescued by bystanders and escaped without any injuries.

The boy was dropped off at school by his father, Ajeet Singh, who described the moment: 'The plyboard broke, and my child fell inside. My wife and bystanders helped pull him out. The pit was deep, so I had to lie down and pull him out.' The child was taken to AIIMS Trauma Centre for examination. Ajeet Singh stressed the need for an investigation, questioning why the manhole wasn't properly covered.

The incident follows other recent tragedies, including the drowning of a mother and child on August 1 and the deaths of three UPSC aspirants on July 27 due to flooding.
