Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath extended his support to Indian wrestler Vinesh Phogat following her disqualification from the Paris Olympics 2024 final. Adityanath expressed his unwavering confidence that Phogat would soon return to the field stronger than ever.

"Vinesh Phogat ji, you remain a pride, winner, and champion for all Indians. Don't be disappointed. Your outstanding performance at the Paris Olympics 2024 has brought immense pride to India. Not just hope, but complete confidence that you will soon return stronger than before. The entire nation stands with you," Adityanath posted on X.

In a major setback to India's wrestling medal hopes, Vinesh Phogat was disqualified from the women's 50 kg wrestling event for exceeding the weight limit. She was set to face the United States' Sarah Ann Hildebrandt in the Gold Medal match. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also consoled Phogat, urging the Indian Olympic Association to explore all options to contest her disqualification.

"Vinesh, you are a champion among champions! You are India's pride and an inspiration for every Indian. This setback deeply hurts, and I wish words could express the despair we feel. Yet, your resilient nature to face challenges head-on is commendable. Come back stronger! We are all rooting for you," Modi posted on X.

PM Modi sought firsthand information from Indian Olympic Association (IOA) President PT Usha and urged her to file a strong protest regarding the disqualification if it aids Phogat's case. The Indian Olympic contingent stated that Phogat weighed over the 50 kg mark by a few grams, leading to her disqualification. They requested respect for her privacy and focus on the ongoing competitions.
