On Thursday, the Supreme Court announced it will hear a petition aimed at rescheduling the NEET-PG 2024 examination due to highly inconvenient exam centres and concerns surrounding mark normalization. Advocate Anas Tanwir, representing the petitioners, presented the case before the Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud, requesting an urgent hearing.

Chief Justice Chandrachud assured the petitioners that the matter would be listed for a hearing tomorrow. NEET-PG 2024 is slated for August 11. The petitioners are urging the court to instruct the respondents to reschedule the exam, citing the allocation of test cities that are difficult for many candidates to reach. They also seek transparency regarding the normalization formula for the four sets of question papers to avoid arbitrariness in the process.

The petition highlighted that test city allocations were made on July 31 and that specific centres would be announced on August 8, making it challenging for students to make travel arrangements. With over two lakh students set to appear for the exam in 185 test cities, the petitioners noted the difficulties in obtaining train tickets and the skyrocketing airfares due to dynamic pricing.

The petition expressed concern over the exams being conducted in two batches without disclosing the normalization formula, which could lead to disparities in the difficulty of question papers between batches. The petitioners advocate for the exam to be conducted in a single batch to ensure uniformity and fairness.

Various students, including Vishal Soren, have called on the court to address the examination centre allocation issues, advocating for more equitable and transparent test centre assignments at closer locations. The petition was filed by Anas Tanwir, an Advocate on Record. (ANI)
