The Supreme Court on Friday dismissed a petition that requested the rescheduling of NEET-PG 2024 due to problems with the allocation of exam centers. Chief Justice DY Chandrachud, leading the bench, noted that the world is imperfect and that it is beyond their scope to create a new education policy.

Furthermore, the court opted against deferring the exams so as not to jeopardize the careers of numerous candidates. This decision followed a plea seeking an urgent listing of issues related to exam centers and the normalization of marks between two batches of examinees.

Advocate Anas Tanwir, representing the petitioners, presented the case before Chief Justice Chandrachud, who assured that the matter would be heard the following day. Candidates argued that they were allocated test cities inconvenient for travel, with specific centers to be declared just days before the exam. Additionally, they called for transparency in the normalization formula to prevent perceived unfairness.

The NEET-PG 2024 examination is scheduled for August 11, with over two lakh students participating across 185 cities. Petitioners stressed that short notice and difficulties securing travel arrangements could severely impact students. They also highlighted concerns over the normalization formula for the two batches, fearing unequal examination conditions.

Students have requested that exams be conducted in a single batch to ensure fairness and clarity in the allocation of exam centers. The petition, filed by Anas Tanwir, emphasized the urgent need for equitable and transparent allocation of centers to nearby locations. (ANI)
