Assam Powers Up with CNG: A Green Energy Leap
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma inaugurated five CNG stations in Guwahati to promote the use of green energy. With several more CNG stations in various stages of development, Assam is expanding its green energy infrastructure, including solar power projects and electric buses, to meet its energy needs sustainably.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday emphasized the role of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) in reducing carbon footprints. He inaugurated five new CNG stations in Guwahati, marking a significant step towards embracing green energy on a large scale.
With the addition of these stations, Kamrup Metro and Kamrup district now host seven CNG stations, and another eight are nearing completion. Meanwhile, work is in progress for 15 more. In Barak valley, construction is completed on three CNG stations, with two more in various stages of completion.
Sarma also highlighted that Assam is advancing in its green energy initiatives with 3,000 MW of solar power projects under development. To support these efforts, the state is deploying CNG and electric buses and building the necessary infrastructure for additional CNG and charging stations. The domestic piped natural gas (PNG) scheme is also being actively pursued. The five newly inaugurated CNG stations were set up by Purba Bharati Gas Pvt Ltd, a joint venture of Assam Gas Company Ltd, Oil India Ltd, and Gail Gas Ltd.
