Har Ghar Tiranga Abhiyan: Empowering Women and Uniting the Nation
The Har Ghar Tiranga campaign, launched by PM Modi in 2022, aims to foster patriotism by encouraging citizens to hoist the national flag. The initiative has transformed into a people's movement, creating new employment opportunities, especially for women, who are now primary producers of national flags through Self-Help Groups.

The Har Ghar Tiranga Abhiyan, launched nationwide in 2022 as part of the 'Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav,' was spearheaded by Prime Minister Narendra Modi as a people's movement. The campaign urged citizens to hoist the national flag at their homes, workplaces, and institutions to promote patriotism and unity.
What began as part of India's Independence Day celebrations evolved into a large-scale people's movement, generating new employment opportunities for thousands of women. These women-led Self-Help Groups (SHGs) have become the primary producers of national flags, reducing reliance on large vendors.
Initially, the central government faced significant challenges in meeting the demand for flags, procuring approximately 7.5 crore flags from large vendors and distributing them. However, with revised guidelines under the Flag Code of India, SHGs have increasingly taken over production. States like Uttar Pradesh, once reliant on government-supplied flags, have become self-sufficient through SHGs, highlighting the economic impact and self-reliance fostered by the campaign. As of 2024, SHGs are the predominant producers of the annual 25 crore flags needed across the country, selling them for Rs. 15-20 each and generating substantial income for women involved.
