West Bengal Police Commissioner Vineet Kumar Goyal urged the public not to believe in 'rumours' and 'narratives' created by some individuals concerning the rape and murder of a trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata. Goyal called for faith in the CBI, which is currently investigating the matter, highlighting the transparency of the postmortem process.
Commissioner Goyal dismissed misleading reports that police informed the victim's family of a suicide or found 150 grams of semen in her body. He assured that officials are cooperating with the CBI and encouraged public trust in both the agency and the police. 'Far too many rumours are floating that have no basis,' Goyal stated, urging reliance on the ongoing CBI investigation.
Further dismissing rumors of a cover-up, Goyal stated that all evidence was collected transparently, with videography capturing the process, and in the presence of family and friends. He also noted that 25 individuals were arrested following vandalism at the RG Kar Hospital campus by an unidentified mob. The Kolkata Police continue their search for additional suspects, with assistance from the public via social media channels.
