In Madhya Pradesh, farmers' organizations have raised alarms about plummeting soybean prices, describing the situation as a crisis that could strip the state of its 'soybean state' designation. The Sanyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM) has issued a statement urging the Union government to take immediate action.

Last August, soybean prices ranged from Rs 4,450 to Rs 4,725 per quintal; however, they have now fallen to Rs 3,500 to Rs 4,000 per quintal. Farmer leaders highlight that costs have increased over the last decade, but today's prices are the same as they were ten years ago, prompting farmers to consider shifting to other crops. SKM leaders are also pushing for the government to ensure a price range of Rs 6,000 to Rs 8,000 per quintal.

Further complicating the issue, soybean oil prices are on the rise despite the fall in soybean prices, attributed to unfavorable government policies and unchecked trader profiteering. SKM has demanded curbs on palm oil imports to support domestic soybean farmers. Official data notes an increase in soybean cultivation, but farmers warn of further price drops with new crop arrivals.
