West Bengal Governor Ananda Bose convened an emergency meeting with Vice Chancellors to address women's safety on campuses and in society, according to an official statement.

Held on Wednesday, the meeting featured Dr. P M Nair, an expert on human trafficking, who discussed the role of universities in preventing the trafficking of women and children. The governor engaged in discussions on these issues and suggested implementing safety measures within universities and broader society.

In response to recent incidents, including the attack at R.G. Kar Medical College, the governor proposed the 'Abhaya Campaign,' aimed at setting up Anti-Human Trafficking (AHT) clubs in educational institutions. This campaign seeks to empower youth to combat exploitation and abuse.

Alongside the meeting, Kolkata saw protests over the rape and murder of a trainee doctor. Citizens, including the victim's parents, and Governor Bose, showed solidarity by turning off their lights and lighting candles.
