Punjab Police Pioneers Comprehensive Internal Reforms with IPF Partnership

Punjab Police has launched an internal reforms project in collaboration with the Indian Police Foundation, starting in SAS Nagar and Roopnagar and eventually expanding across the state. The initiative aims to improve complaint registration, police response, citizen services, and community engagement, setting a precedent for police reforms in India.

In a pioneering move, Punjab Police, in collaboration with the Indian Police Foundation (IPF), has initiated an internal reforms project. This makes Punjab the first state to embark on such an initiative, initially launching in SAS Nagar and Roopnagar districts, with plans to expand statewide. The project will also be rolled out simultaneously in Tamil Nadu, Telangana, and Chhattisgarh.

A statement from Punjab's Information and Public Relations Department outlined the project's objectives, which include improving complaint registration and police response, minimizing harassment, and enhancing citizen services and community engagement. Special Director General of Police (DGP) for Community Affairs, Gurpreet Kaur Deo, formally inaugurated the initiative at the Punjab Police Officer's Institute, under the guidance of Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav.

Special DGP Deo reiterated Punjab Police's commitment to providing top-quality policing services. She highlighted Punjab's leadership in implementing the SAANJH project, which allows citizens to access police services online or via SAANJH Kendras, promoting citizen-friendly policing. This reform aims to elevate professional and ethical standards, improve service quality, and uphold democratic values through standardized procedures focused on citizens' rights, professionalism, and transparency, setting an example for other states to follow.

The project prioritizes areas such as accessibility and response, quality of investigation, citizen services, work environment, community policing, police behavior, and training, according to ANI.
