Raja Bhoj International Airport in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, has commenced 24-hour operations starting today, a significant step towards enhancing connectivity and supporting the growth of both regional and national air traffic. The Airports Authority of India (AAI) announced this in a release on Tuesday. The move will provide greater flexibility to airlines, non-scheduled operators, medical flights, and general aviation, enabling efficient planning and utilization of airport infrastructure.
Currently, Bhopal airport operates 220 scheduled flights weekly, connecting to nine domestic destinations, including Delhi, Mumbai, and Bengaluru. With the introduction of round-the-clock operations, this number is expected to increase, reaching approximately 268 movements by the winter season of 2024. IndiGo will launch a much-needed direct flight on the Pune-Bhopal-Pune route from October 27, 2024, with bookings already open.
According to the AAI, the extended operational hours will attract more airlines and routes, making Bhopal Airport a more prominent hub. This development will enhance passenger satisfaction, stimulate the local economy by boosting demand for local businesses, and make Bhopal more accessible to tourists. Additionally, improved cargo handling and night parking facilities will further benefit the airport's growth, positioning it as a leading airport in India.
