Parliament Adjourned Amidst Controversy over Amit Shah's Ambedkar Remarks

India's Parliament witnessed a day of heightened tension as both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha were adjourned following protests over Union Home Minister Amit Shah's controversial remarks about B R Ambedkar. Opposition members condemned Shah's comments as disrespectful, intensifying the political discourse as MPs are set to reconvene on Thursday.

During a Rajya Sabha session, Amit Shah criticized the Congress, alleging that invoking Ambedkar's name had become a political 'fashion' for the party. He remarked that had Congress invoked God's name as much, they might have earned 'heaven for 7 lives.' This prompted a strong backlash from Opposition MPs, who accused him of insulting the chief architect of the Indian Constitution.

Countering the accusations, Union Minister Kiren Rijiju blamed Congress for conspiring against Ambedkar in the past. Rijiju, a Buddhist, emphasized his own historic position as the first Buddhist Union Law Minister since Ambedkar's tenure. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also weighed in, stating that Shah had uncovered Congress' history of undermining Ambedkar, further criticizing their track record on SC/ST community issues.
