AIIMS Enhances Security with AI-Driven Surveillance

AIIMS Delhi is bolstering its security with AI-enabled CCTV cameras, following a gap analysis after the RG Kar incident. Director Dr. M Srinivas shared that trial implementation has commenced at select areas, with plans for a campus-wide roll-out, enhancing safety through cutting-edge facial recognition technology.

In a significant move to enhance security measures, AIIMS Delhi is installing artificial intelligence-enabled CCTV cameras at strategic locations across the campus. Following a comprehensive gap analysis prompted by the recent RG Kar incident, Director Dr. M Srinivas confirmed that these advanced systems are currently undergoing trials at select major points.

Dr. Srinivas elaborated on the ongoing security enhancements, noting that areas like the main gates and emergency services have been prioritized for the initial installation of these cameras. The objective, he explained, is to evaluate the effectiveness of the artificial intelligence technology, with plans for wider implementation once satisfactory results are achieved.

Highlighting the importance of facial recognition technology in modern security frameworks, Dr. Srinivas emphasized its role in AIIMS's security strategy. In a related development, AIIMS has initiated a pilot program for facial recognition-based access control in the Mother and Child Block, marking a proactive approach to patient and staff safety post the Kolkata incident.
