Gujarat is taking significant steps to protect its rich biodiversity, specifically targeting the conservation of the Indian wolf. The state has launched the 'Atlas of Indian Wolf Habitats,' an effort led by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and Forest Minister Mulubhai Bera. This atlas highlights suitable areas for wolves in 13 districts.

The atlas, developed by the GEER Foundation in collaboration with the Gujarat Forest Department, was introduced on Good Governance Day. It utilizes advanced technology, such as remote sensing and GIS, to provide a detailed view of wolf habitats. This initiative is a step towards ecological balance, focusing on conserving key species.

The forests and desert regions of Gujarat are critical for wolves, with ideal habitats identified as open scrublands and grasslands. The initiative emphasizes the importance of critical corridors for the movement and genetic diversity of the wolf population. This comprehensive strategy aims to bolster awareness and protection efforts statewide.
