Empowering India: Rooftop Solar Revolution in Jammu and Kashmir

The PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana is transforming energy accessibility in Jammu and Kashmir by subsidizing rooftop solar panels. Since its 2024 launch, the initiative aims to power one crore households by 2027, saving costs and reducing carbon emissions. Substantial adoption has already benefited over 8 lakh homes.

In Jammu and Kashmir's Udhampur, residents are witnessing a shift in energy resources, thanks to the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana. Launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in February 2024, the initiative is catalyzing renewable energy adoption by subsidizing rooftop solar installations, aiming to light up one crore households by March 2027.

Beneficiaries like Madan Gopal from Ramnagar express gratitude for the newfound energy independence. 'We used to watch about solar power on TV, but now we're experiencing the benefits firsthand,' he shared. Vishwanath, a local tailor, also commends the consistent power supply, previously hindered by unreliable electricity.

As of January 2025, the scheme has reached over 8.46 lakh homes, with subsidies covering up to 40% of installation costs. This governmental push is not only reducing energy costs but projected to save Rs 75,000 crores annually, marking a significant step towards a sustainable energy future in India.
