On Saturday, BJP leader N Ramchander Rao strongly criticized Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy for his remarks on Prime Minister Narendra Modi's caste. Rao described the comments as "cheap" and "in poor political taste," asserting they were made to distract from Congress's flawed caste census in the state.
According to Rao, the Congress party seeks to divert attention from the failures of their caste census endeavor. He noted that even Congress ministers admitted that the census needs a review because of omissions. Meanwhile, K Laxman, BJP's OBC Morcha national president, labeled Reddy's statements as false, arguing that Modi's caste has been recognized in official records for years.
Amidst the uproar over the caste survey, Congress leaders defended the initiative as the most scientific and accurate population study since independence. The survey was conducted in two phases with rigorous oversight and methodology, involving social scientists and policymakers, to ensure reliable results. Nevertheless, political tensions continue over the survey's implications and reliability.
