Rising Dollar Impacts Emerging Markets Amid Russia-Ukraine Peace Talks

Emerging market currencies came under pressure as the U.S. dollar strengthened, while stocks marked gains on Tuesday amidst ongoing talks between Russia and the U.S. aimed at ending the conflict in Ukraine.
The MSCI index, measuring global emerging market currencies, fell from a recent high, as the dollar index advanced, reversing a three-day losing streak. However, boosted by Chinese AI technology optimism, the global stocks index noted a 9.5% increase since January 13.
Investors monitored critical discussions between U.S. and Russian officials in Riyadh, marking significant peace talks not involving Ukraine. Meanwhile, President Donald Trump's phone conversations with Russian and Ukrainian leaders fueled optimism, rallying the Russian rouble and Ukrainian bonds last week. European stocks also experienced gains amid the prospects of progress in negotiations.
