In a landmark move, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has heralded the passage of new land reforms by the state assembly as a monumental step toward innovation and progress. The Uttarakhand (Uttar Pradesh Zamindari Destruction and Land Reforms Act, 1950) (Amendment) Bill, 2025, was approved on Friday, opening fresh avenues for comprehensive land management.

Emphasizing a commitment to public sentiment, CM Dhami outlined a series of historic decisions, including the implementation of the Uniform Civil Code and stringent anti-cheating laws. The government aims to protect Uttarakhand's resources from land mafias and ensure land is used for its intended purposes, thereby preventing misuse.

Addressing geographical challenges unique to Uttarakhand's diverse terrain, CM Dhami stressed the need for robust amendments. The new regulations shift decision-making power regarding major land transfers to the state level, removing district collector discretion in many cases, thus streamlining processes for genuine investors while discouraging improper land acquisition.
