Chhattisgarh's New Retail Revolution: Shops Open 24/7

Chhattisgarh's government has enacted the New Shops and Establishments Act, allowing shops to open 24/7. This initiative aims to enhance trade and boost employment. The Chhattisgarh government, under Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, has launched a transformative policy allowing shops to operate 24/7. This move is set to invigorate the state's trade environment and create numerous employment opportunities, significantly benefiting business owners and the regional economy.

Shops were previously required to close one day a week, but this restriction has been lifted, offering traders operational flexibility. To safeguard employees' rights, each worker is assured a weekly holiday, with no more than eight working hours per day, emphasizing a balanced work-life framework. Additionally, shop owners are mandated to comply with labor welfare schemes.

The reformed regulations simplify shop registration, demanding existing entities secure a Labor Identification Number (LIN) within six months, free of charge. Late applicants will incur a fee. Commerce Minister Lakhan Lal Dewangan has praised these changes, predicting significant benefits for small and medium enterprises alongside accelerated urban development, although liquor shops are excluded from this rule.
