State-owned power giant NTPC has announced its commitment to invest over Rs 2 lakh crore in renewable energy projects across Madhya Pradesh. This significant investment, formalized through initial pacts, focuses on diverse energy sources such as solar, wind, pumped hydro storage, and other carbon-neutral options.
During the Global Investors Summit held on February 24-25, NTPC and its subsidiary NTPC Green Energy Ltd (NGEL) inked multiple Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with the Madhya Pradesh government. Among these, an agreement with the Madhya Pradesh Power Generating Company Ltd (MPPGCL) aims to establish up to 20 GW of renewable energy projects, involving an approximate investment of Rs 1,20,000 crore.
Additional MoUs include the development of sustainable non-fossil fuel power plants and a substantial investment in pumped hydro storage. The Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, Mohan Yadav, emphasized the strategic importance of these agreements in supporting India's energy transition goals and achieving Net Zero benchmarks.
